Luxury

Description

Scope

This sector includes all the players in the major product families in the luxury goods industry: leatherwear, prêt-à-porter, clocks and watches, jewellery, fashion accessories, perfume and life style products.

Background

The economic crisis resulted in a very erratic demand for luxury products. Competition became much tougher, on a globalized market dominated by global players. The strategies adopted by the players in the sector consisted in taking better control of their distribution channels and cutting their time to market, while guaranteeing the same very high levels of quality. Growth in emerging regions (Asia, Russia, Latin America) remains a priority.

The challenges

Against this backdrop, the luxury supply chain faces a number of challenges:

  • speed up the product design and industrialization processes,
  • make the means of production, which are faced with severe constraints in terms of quality, rare know-how and locations, more flexible and reactive,
  • control subcontractors and incorporate them in the planning and operational monitoring processes,
  • manage a fast-changing demand, which tends to be different in the emerging and the mature markets,
  • better incorporate sales priorities in the approach to planning, in order to boost the service rates offered to customers,
  • optimize complex logistics flows and multi-pole patterns.
